Mercy Retirement & Care Center Zine
There’s no age limit to creating a wonderful zine, as this touching collection of stories and pictures put together by members of the Mercy Retirement & Care Center proves. The Oakland based retirement center was so inspired by the zines in the RPS zine library that they decided to put together their one of own. I couldn’t stop smiling the entire time I was paging through this one.
Everything about this little book feels warm and welcoming. The cover is made from an old calendar page and includes a bag of chamomile tea, the perfect beverage to consume with the absorbing the artwork, stories and anecdotes within. The stories range from anecdotes of childhood games, to favorite movie stars, to favorite news headlines, including the story of the nun from above, who went skydiving on her 80th birthday.
The zine is book-ended by photos of the contributing members, and from the smiles one can’t help but feel that this was a joy to put together. For anyone looking for a small glimpse into the past told from many different and interesting perspectives, along with fine artwork and funny stories, or for anyone needing a nice warm smile, check out this booklet at the RPS zine library.
Thank you for making such a wonderful zine Mercy Retirement & Care Center! And keep em coming!
